SOMATIC EXPERIENCING (SE)
SE is a body oriented, therapeutic approach to processing stress injuries and trauma. Practitioners have a deep understanding of the nervous system and how the body holds traumatic stress chemistry. While traditional psychotherapy (sometimes referred to as talk therapy) focuses on thoughts, feelings and behaviors, SE focuses on sensations in the body. SE can be used in conjunction with or in place of talk therapy. It is a gentle modality that aims to support the body’s natural discharge of the stress physiology and completion of the thwarted defensive responses in the body. Connection with and attunement to the client’s individual needs is of great importance to create safety in the therapeutic relationship.
